Here we go into the questionable, perhaps unbelievable beginnings of a successful archery endeavor. Picture a tool and die maker enamored with his first bow. His critical eye sees improvements and he sets to work in the laundry room of his home in Wisconsin. Meanwhile in Indiana, another archer is setting up 3Rivers Archery in a back bedroom.
The story goes that the Dale Karch had developed the remarkable Tomahawk bow. He asked 3Rivers to sell it. Then manager Todd Smith said the Karchs would have to buy the business to get space in the 3Rivers catalog. So they bought the business and moved their family to Indiana.
Roll ahead, by the time Dale and Sandie Karch bought the business in 1999, 3Rivers had grown faster than a buck on a feed plot. From the beginnings in a1,000 square foot house, to the 10,000 square foot warehouse just off Interstate 69. The Karch’s had been a dealer for 3Rivers in DMJ Archery, Wisconsin. They say if it is archery, they have it or someone on their staff has done it. They are mostly a mail-order business but have an indoor range and a retail outlet that many people visit.
The 3Rivers Archery Web site is excitingly not camo nor does it have a black background. Another outstanding feature is that recurves and long bows have featured space. There are tabs for glues, arrow and bow building and SCA Medieval, which is intriguing. Not every archery Web site offers a sundial compass, or flint and steel striker kits which would be most handy if caught out in the 16th century without your trusty lighter or cell phone, for that matter.
